Chilean studio Hebra Arquitectos has successfully built a building made of wood and glass. The completed elevated cabin is designed to occupy a very small area and can accommodate wheelchair users. Quilanto House is located in the Los Rios region of southern Chile, next to Lake Ranco. The house is located in a lush forest and is a natural retreat for a mother and her adult daughter with limited mobility. The cabin was built in just eight months.
The house rises above the forest floor by Hebra Arquitectos in San Diego. The studio\’s main design objectives included minimizing damage to the site and ensuring that the cabin was also wheelchair accessible, and accordingly the studio planned a single-storey house that would feel immersed in the forest. The rectangular house is raised off the ground and topped with a gabled metal roof.
The exterior is covered with cypress cladding; Framed with expanses of glass, a ramp leads to the main entrance, with a wooden deck built around existing trees. src=\”https://p9-sign.toutiaoimg.com/tos-cn-i-6w9my0ksvp/964d8693f870431997265e317c129afc~tplv-tt-origin-web:gif.jpeg? _iz=58558&from=article.pc_detail&lk3s=953192f4&x-expires=1735000920&x-signature=iOrm%2FuPzB0CY4G2lm5SxSfQnMPw%3D\”/>
The house is wheelchair accessible. The team declares: “This cabin is considered wheelchair accessible. A basic volume that strives to protect the forest to the greatest extent, retaining all the trees that have grown and allowing them to grow on the deck. \”The internal layout is simple and smooth, the space is open, and it can accommodate wheelchairs.
The central part leads to the deck through sliding doors, covering the kitchen, dining area and living room. The roof of this area is as high as 4.5 meters, creating an open and high ceiling. Ambience. Floor-to-ceiling glass provides a strong connection to the natural landscape.
Large sliding doors lead to outdoor decks flanking the central volume. Area – one main bedroom on one side and two smaller bedrooms on the other. The two smaller rooms are separated by a partition wall with sliding doors that can be opened to create a separate space.
The cabin has polished concrete floors, and the team noted that given the limited budget, the decoration was undesirable. The façade is kept minimalist. Exposed steel trusses stretch overhead, and plywood walls and ceilings are defined. \”Floors were defined in polished concrete for the same logic of cost reduction,\” the team said. track=\”29\”>
Internal plywood walls and steel trusses are exposed. The kitchen features painted plywood cabinets, tile backsplash, and quartz island. A black wood-burning stove will add warmth to the house during the colder months. Furniture is selected by the client.
