Just like the rubber strip, the top is also a sealing material for door and window products.
Although the sealing performance is naturally not as superior as the rubber strip .
But with its \”low resistance\” Features always play an indispensable role in sliding doors, windows and screens.
01 The role of tops in door and window products
Sealing strips are most commonly found on various sliding doors, windows, and invisible screens.
It is composed of upper polypropylene yarn and polyester It is a \”two-phase combination\” of a strip (fuzz) made of acrylic film and a base made of polypropylene material at the lower end.
The principle of its function is similar to that of adhesive strips. Take sliding windows as an example:
- Top strips are interspersed on the surrounding frames of the sliding window;
- Due to the way the sliding window is opened, the gap around it will be relatively large(The gap is small or tight, and the resistance is too big to push);
- cannot be used Adhesive strip(It is still due to resistance, but it is not absolute. Some sliding doors and windows will use low-resistance strips to solve this problem to improve sealing);
- So we used tops that will not be squeezed or deformed, nor can they fit tightly, but have low resistance, and use length and wool density to make up for the sealing;
- When the window sash is locked, the top strip passes smoothly, like a \”curtain\”, sealing the seams around the movable window span(dust-proof and insect-proof);
02 Types of sealing strips
With the advancement of technology, the evolution of tops has not only diversified materials and products, but also \”technically\” , the market is roughly divided into 3 grades of products:
- Silicone-free tops are the lowest grade. Its disadvantages are that it has a short service life and poor weather resistance, which makes it easy to shed hair after a period of use(Two or three years), \”bald hair\” also reduces the sealing effect of doors and windows;
- Siliconized top, that is, treated with silicone oil, is now the mainstream. Its durability has improved by leaps and bounds(about ten years), and the fluff is not easy to absorb water, which greatly improves the sealing performance of sliding doors and windows in rainy days ;
- Siliconized clip tops, on top of the silicone tops, there is an additional \”plastic sheet\” in the middle of the tops, which is the highest grade. The plastic sheet enhances the upright effect of the pile, and also overcomes the problem of insufficient gaps in the pile of woven fabrics, better improves the sealing performance, and has better seam-stopping ability;

03 What affects the sealing performance of tops
Let’s take the most common sliding window as an example.
If you want to live a decent life, you want a top seal The effect is decent, and both quantity and quality are important:
FirstThere are: there should be 2 tops on the upper and lower tracks of each window sash, inside and outside, 2 tops on the sides between the sash and the window frame, and 1 / 2 tops on the sides between the sash and the window sash;
Then you need to cut off a few pieces and fit them properly: strips are basically worn manually, and if there is a piece missing from the production, it will inevitably affect the sealing. The fit refers to the degree of \”fit\” between the base of the top and the insertion position of the window sash. If the base is too small, the top will be loose and affect the sealing effect;
And the hair should be dense and long: In addition to the clips mentioned above, the fluff of the top itself should be dense so as to leave no gaps as much as possible and block light, wind and dust. It must be long enough so that when the window sash is locked, the tops are already in place and slightly deformed and close to the aluminum;
04 How to choose sliding windows/tops?
The last two chapters above are already considered purchasing guides.
So this chapter is just based on this, Add some supplements and provide some practical methods:
Be sure to choose door, window, and screen products with silicone tops or silicone clip tops, and directly ask the merchant \”What process is the top made of/has it been siliconized?\” That’s it;
△ Non-siliconized fluff has short lifespan
You can also ask the brand. The quality of top products under regular brands is relatively more guaranteed: Lijialong, Xian\’an, Dinggu, Ganchun, Gaoshida, etc.;
When you experience the product in the exhibition hall, push and pull it a few times to see how it feels: Generally speaking, the top will definitely bring resistance when it works, so when you push and pull the window sash normally, you can feel \”I have to use force\” to push it. (Moderate, the resistance may be due to the weight of the glass or the pulley), and there will be a \”rustling\” sound caused by the friction of the tops. When the doors and windows are closed to the bottom, you can still feel the tops because of the \”fur quilt\” \”Pull aside\” comes, the feeling of \”brushing\”;
Experience the product at the same time You can also \”grab\” the top and pull it to see if it will be twitched and whether the amplitude will be too large(The twitching may be due to the narrow base or missing a section); Check whether the corners are connected and whether there are any gaps; check whether the top is long enough;
More advanced, take sample angle/section(You can also observe the sample window directly)Check whether there are two tops or four tops between the sash, and whether there are other auxiliary clips, etc.; whether the top or bottom tops at any position reach the top, and whether the top/bottom between the two window sashes At the bottom, is there a windproof block(Some windproof blocks are made of nylon, and some also have \”fuzz\” on them).
△ There is too much displacement at the top of the top
