In autumn, when I walked into the avocado planting base in Huiyao Village, Jinping Town, Jingdong County, Pu\’er City, Yunnan Province, I saw green avocados hanging on the branches, and the fruits were plump and well-proportioned. In recent years, Jingdong County has tried to develop the avocado industry based on its resource advantages, opening the door to wealth for villagers.

Avocado is known as \”forest cream\”. When mature, the flesh is delicate and the nutritional value is high. In recent years, it has been favored by more and more consumers and has become a popular fruit. . In Huiyao Village, avocados have entered a critical period of management and protection. Farmer Yang Xiaowei is pruning the avocado trees to allow the fruit to absorb more sunlight and nutrients, helping to increase yields.
“In 2018, I introduced avocados from Jinghong City, Xishuangban Prefecture, and tried planting them in Jingdong. After several years of planting, the fruit setting rate and fruit quality are both good, and it is more suitable for the development of Jingdong. Next, I plan to expand the planting scale and strive to expand the planting area to about 300 acres in two years,\” Yang Xiaowei said.
The reason why Yang Xiaowei attaches great importance to the development of the avocado industry is largely due to the high market price of avocados. It is reported that the current market price of avocados is 20 yuan per kilogram, and the income is expected to reach more than 20,000 yuan per mu, which is a considerable profit.
The successful trial planting of avocados has become a new highlight in increasing the income of Jingdong County’s specialty industries, helping the local area embark on a road of industrial enrichment and injecting new impetus into rural revitalization. (Zhou Yan, Zhou Yuezhong)
