Shangtang Street Li House is located at No. 25 Shangtang Street in the east of Qiaodong. It was the former residence of Li Qiqing, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, Li Wangshan, a famous educator, and Li Xuhuan, a patriotic anti-Japanese general.
Li Qiqing knows something about it, and it is listed in the Huizhou Hall of Fame at the Huizhou Museum. Li Wangshan also heard about it. As for Li Xuhuan, I have never heard of it. Based on the former, Kuang is very close, so I intend to go to Shangtang Street to have a look.
No. 25 Shangtang Street still has descendants of the Li family living there. There is a gate at the gate, and there is a narrow alley at the entrance, which was turned into a wine shop. I made it at home. But I asked about Li Wangshan and said I didn’t know.
It is understood that the building was built in the middle and late Qing Dynasty and was rebuilt by Li Wangshan in 1947 during the Anti-Japanese War. The building faces south. , brick and wood structure, green brick wall. It is composed of a front yard, three entrances, and three courtyards. The whole building is in the shape of a long bamboo tube, with a long and narrow area, so the structure cannot be seen from the outside.

Li Qiqing (1859-1925) – a Lingnan poet, with the courtesy name Hanzhen, Hanfu, and the nickname Juanzhai, a native of Huizhou City. In his early years, he studied at Fenghu Academy and was one of Liang Dingfen\’s proud students. He became a Jinshi in the 16th year of Guangxu\’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1890), and successively served as the magistrate of Anxi, Hui\’an and Yushu in Jilin, Wuyi in Hebei, and finally the magistrate of Ning\’an in Jilin. Li Qiqing\’s literary achievements in Ci are the highest. She became famous for her Ci at an early age and advocated peace with Zhang Yunmei, Ye Yanlan, Jiang Fengchen and others. She was one of the most famous talents in Huizhou in the late Qing Dynasty.
Li Qiqing was away from home for a long time and did not forget to revitalize the culture of the country. In the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, she formed the Huiyang Honghan Society and the West Lake with Li Danlin, Ye Wenlan and others. The Poetry Society edits and publishes \”Xunbao Monthly\”, a comprehensive academic and literary journal, to make friends through literature and promote elegance. Died of illness in Beijing in 1925.
He is the author of \”Cao Jian Ci\”, \”Tingfeng Tingshui Ci\”, \”Juanzhai Poetry Collection\”, etc. (There are biographies in \”Historical Materials of Yandu Liyuan in the Qing Dynasty\” and \”Huizhou West Lake Chronicles\”).

It is understood that there is a photo of Li Wangshan hanging on the wall of Li Zhai’s living room, with the words \” The words \”Bingwu Seating List of the Second Class Elementary School of the Government\” are written on it. Li Wangshan, also known as Li Daiqing, is a local celebrity who is enthusiastic about education in Huizhou. He once served as the first director (principal) of the second-class primary school in Huizhou Prefecture. In 1912, Fenghu Academy was bombarded by artillery fire due to war, and its collection of books was burned, causing serious losses. In 1921, in order to protect the collection, relevant people moved the remaining books to Xiaoximen Ercang in Huizhou City (near today\’s Huizhou Ninth Primary School). By 1931, under the initiative of local celebrities Li Wangshan, Huang Shutang, and Zhang Youren, a two-story reinforced concrete structure building with an area of 800 square meters was built in Zhongshan Park. The remaining books from Fenghu Book Collection were moved into it and named \”Huizhou Private Fenghu Bookstore\”. Library\”, the predecessor of today\’s Huizhou City Library.
Li Xuhuan, the nephew of Li Wangshan, was also born in Li Wu, Shangtang Street. In July 1937, Yu Hanmou turned against Chen Jitang and forced Chen Jitang to step down. Li Xuhuan was one of the main planners who played an important role in this incident, promoting the process of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and the unified resistance to Japan. After October 1940, Chiang Kai-shek once again set off an anti-communist upsurge. Li Xuhuan was more considerate and tolerant of his CCP members and democrats, and let go of CCP members who were blacklisted, making a positive contribution to the revolution.
